COMPOSITE BONDING

What is Composite Tooth Bonding?
Composite tooth bonding is dental procedure in which a composite made of particles such as silicon dioxide or quartz is attached to the tooth with a synthetic resin. The composite is blended to match the color and translucency of your teeth. Composite tooth bonding can cover a variety of teeth problems and restore a beautiful smile.

When is Composite Tooth Bonding recommended?
Composite tooth bonding can cover many unattractive teeth problems including:

  • Broken front teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps in the teeth
  • Cavities
  • Discolored or spotted teeth

What is the procedure for Composite Tooth Bonding?
First, the tooth is prepared for composite bonding by lightly roughening the area to be repaired. This usually does not require anesthetic. After the surface of the tooth is etched, a thin, clear bonding agent is applied followed by the composite. The composite is then polished to ensure it matches the surrounding teeth. Often several layers of composite in different shades and translucencies need to be used in order to duplicate the depth of color and the color gradations that occur in natural teeth.

Once the color match is ensured, the composite is hardened under a high-intensity curing light.

Composite tooth bonding is not permanent and will eventually have to be replaced. However, good dental care including brushing, flossing and regular dental cleanings will help extend the life of your bonding.
